The East African Student Association at UCM is proud to host an evening that will showcase the vibrant cultures, traditions, and flavors of East Africa. The event titled “Tastes of East Africa” will provide guests with a unique opportunity to experience the diversity of this region through food, fashion, art, music and more.
The night will begin with a traditional East African Coffee ceremony hosted by students from Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee. Guests will be able to sample freshly brewed coffee with popcorn and observe the customary rituals of this cherished tradition.
A highlight of the evening will be the East African fashion show featuring models dressed in the beautiful traditional clothing of countries like Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and more. Guests will learn about the distinct styles, colors, and textiles of East African Fashion. As well as a lively cultural performance by the talented UCM East African Student Association’s Dance team. Their lively routines will showcase diverse traditional dances from across East Africa, representing different countries and ethnic groups through movement. Their enthusiasm and skills will allow guests to truly appreciate and experience first-hand the captivating beauty and diversity of East African dance traditions.
No East African cultural expo would be complete without delicious food. There will be appetizing dishes and aromatic spices from across the region for guests to savor, including samosas, curries, kebabs, injera and more. Recipes handed down for generations will allow people to truly taste East Africa.
In addition to foods and fashions, there will be henna artists, vendors selling handicrafts and jewelry, and musical performances showcasing traditional East African instruments and dances. Guests will be immersed int eh sights, sounds, aromas, and flavors that make East African culture extraordinary.
The keynote speaker, a prominent voice on campus, will speak to the gathering about the significance of cultural preservation and building community. Their words will inspire attendees to appreciate both the diversity and common bonds between people of all backgrounds.
With vibrant cultures brought to life through food, fashion, music, art and community, the “Tastes of East Africa: event promises to be an unforgettable celebration. Guests will walk away feeling connected to and enriched by the kaleidoscope of traditions from this dynamic region of the world.
