Do Undocumented Patients with Access to Primary Care Have Fewer Avoidable Emergency Department Visits? Evidence from Los Angeles County Safety-Net Hospitals

This talk will uncover patterns of undocumented immigrant patients’ healthcare utilization in Los Angeles: home to the largest county population of undocumented immigrants and one of the largest public hospital systems in the country. It will also touch on the implications of research findings to our broader understanding of the immigrant health literature in sociology and public health.

Dr. Annie Ro is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health, Society, and Behavior at UC Irvine. She is a social epidemiologist and health demographer who studies social factors that underlie the health of racial and ethnic minority populations.
