The NADOHE Northern CA Chapter Summit on Friday, May 7th, 9am -11:30pm. UC Merced is hosting to showcase the efforts of both the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and our campus’s EDI champions. Our NADOHE guest speaker will be Dr. Mary Wardell-Ghiraduzzi, Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer at University of the Pacific.

The journey to developing an institution’s diversity unit requires intentionality, strategy, and collaboration. Many hard-earned lessons have been learned throughout the country on what this experience entails. Wisdom elevates the need to map the institution’s infrastructure to attain diversity, equity, and inclusion outcomes and Practice points to processes, policies, and collective campus ownership.

UC Merced’s inaugural Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (OEDI) has navigated a global pandemic and a sociopolitical climate acutely aware of the pervasiveness of racism in our country. Through initiatives, programming, and events tailored for faculty, staff, students, and the broader community, strategic collaborations have been instrumental in advancing justice-focused efforts. At the summit, UC Merced seeks to tell the story of how to grow an equity, diversity, and inclusion unit, showcasing how OEDI and EDI leaders at UC Merced have collectively advanced efforts effectively augmenting the university’s embodiment of Equity, Justice, and Inclusive Excellence.
