The purpose of this event is to provide guidance and an employment opportunity to collegiate students regarding Bridge Design while highlighting career exploration through its civil engineers who encompass what it means to build a better California infrastructure. Students will hear from the industry's top engineering practitioners about special projects, experiences and career qualifications. WE ARE HIRING – please see the additional details below for how to apply. DES is looking for candidates to fill its Transportation Engineer Civil vacancy (JC-420656). This is the entry, first working, and journey level of professional engineering work in Caltrans. Under the direction of a registered engineer, incumbents perform a wide variety of professional engineering work in either an office or field setting; as incumbents progress in experience, they will be assigned more difficult work. Works with Project Engineers, staff engineers and detailer in preparing plans and specifications for bridges and walls by performing calculations, running analysis using bridge design software, and developing details in accordance with Memos to Designers, AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, and other reference material. Acts in the capacity of a Project Engineer on moderate-sized projects. This work involves communication with the District Project Manager, district designers, foundations engineers, and other functional units within the Department, as well as from external organizations such as local transportation agencies and communities.
