X-ray luminescence computed tomography (XLCT) is a hybrid molecular imaging modality with the merits of both x-ray imaging (high spatial resolution) and optical imaging (high sensitivity to trace nanophosphors). Narrow x-ray beam based XLCT imaging has shown promise for both the high spatial resolution of X-ray imaging and high molecular sensitivity of optical imaging, but the slow acquisition speed limits its applications for three-dimensional imaging. We have designed, built, and developed a first-of-its-kind three-dimensional focused X-ray luminescence tomography (FXLT) imaging system for small animals and applied a fly-scanning scheme to improve imaging speed. To evaluate the performance of the FXLT system, we have performed phantom experiments and mice experiments, which produces three-dimensional XLCT images within a reasonable time, at high spatial resolution (150 µm), and with high molecular sensitivity (around 2 µM) in deep tissue.
Biography
Yile Fang is a 5th year Bioengineering PhD candidate at University of California, Merced. He received his bachelor’s degree in communication engineering from Beijing University of Post and Telecommunication. He joined Prof. Changqing Li's biomedical imaging lab at UC Merced in 2019 to pursue PhD study. His research is focusing on the further development of a recently introduced molecular imaging modality called x-ray luminescence computed tomography.
