California Poet Laureate Lee Herrick and ethnic studies scholar Kim Park Nelson will be in

conversation to discuss how Asian American adoptees have remained largely invisible (both

despite and because of their hypervisibility as representative of U.S. multiculturalism) when

discussing issues of belonging and justice. The speakers will address how race and

belonging/non-belong are constructed in familial and national contexts as well as how Asian

American adoptees assert belonging and justice through poetry and other forms. They will also tackle how the experiences of marginalized communities can be used to create broad-based coalitions for justice.
